Course Description:

This ancient Maori art form has become a very popular flow art and body balancing activity. It is a fun way learn how to coordinate your body while keeping your arms limber and strong like the Maori warriors of New Zealand. First we will get comfortable with the different planes and then add skills such as the basic butterfly, the three basic weaves, sunrise-sunset, the wind over the mountain, and more. We will then continue building on those skills with different variations and sequences. Expressive movement, transitions, and improv skills will also be covered. Everyone will work at their own pace and skill level during the course. We will put together a performance to show off your flow art skills in the Showcase at the end of the semester. There is a materials fee of $20 for a set of sock poi.
