Pride Club provides a safe and welcoming space for middle-grade students who want to talk about issues related to sexual orientation or gender identity and expression. Pride Club GSA seeks to create greater awareness about the issues and unique experiences faced by the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/ questioning (LGBTQ) community. Pride Club is a safe space for LGBTQ+ students and allies to learn more about issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community, LGBTQ history, influential activists, and different orientations and identities. Allies are welcome and encouraged to join so they can learn how to provide affirming and supportive allyship to friends, family, and classmates.
Pride Club is an officially registered middle school GSA club. A GSA is a student-led club focusing on LGBTQ identity, support, education, and advocacy. For LGBTQ students, GSAs provide a safe and affirming space, encourage leadership opportunities, and promote avenues for creating positive institutional change.
We will also be learning about LGBTQ+ representation in culture and media. We will be voting on a fun book or graphic novel to read and discuss as a group. We will be holding “movie night” viewing parties of movies and shows featuring LGBTQ+ characters.
We will be following the GLSEN 2022-2023 calendar as an outline for weekly discussion topics and activities. We also have some awesome special guests planned!
Everyone is welcome to come, regardless of identity.
The book that is chosen by the club will be provided and is included in the course cost.
